The Express reported in November 2024 that the cost-of-living crisis is back and worse than ever.[1] Yet, while the article exposes some of the deprivation and problems in the UK, it fails to grasp that it never went away. The UK has been in a recession for some time yet is spun as a cost-of-living crisis. However, soon, we will witness a global depression worse than the Great Depression in the US nearly a century ago.

“The cost-of-living crisis is back and is set to get worse. Especially with Reeves’ inheritance tax war on farmers threatening food production.”[2]

The recent carbon neutral Budget by the UK Labour government is decimating the British economy.[3] Consequently, pushing more into poverty.[4] On Monday, 18th November, 80 of the UK’s most prominent businesses wrote to Chancellor Rachel Reeves[5] to warn her that job losses were inevitable due to the recent increase in NI.[6] Deutsche Bank estimates that around 100,000 workers could lose their jobs due to the NI increase.

The BRC letter to Reeves raises concerns over shops closing as a direct consequence of the budgetary measures.[7] However, people fail to grasp that this is the agenda of the carbon-neutral cult. It does not want people driving vehicles to shop in large apartment stores because such stores use large amounts of energy. Instead, the agenda is for people to purchase online and then have the goods shipped directly from the storehouses. Thus, cutting out the need for a physical shop reduces carbon emissions.

Consequently, job losses will be higher than those predicted. We will see large waves of job losses shortly, pushing families further into poverty. Last year, just under twenty per cent of households were in absolute poverty due to the cost of fuel.[8] Alarmingly, due to the recent budget, this figure will drastically increase in the coming months.

Former Prime Minister and chancellor Gordan Brown has been outspoken about the cost-of-living crisis in recent years. Brown at the beginning of 2024, stated that “the ‘cost of living crisis’ is the phrase, but ‘the cost of staying alive crisis’ might be a better description.”[9] However, while Brown’s assessment of the state of the economy is more realistic since the Labour government won the election, sadly, he has been deathly silent on such matters.

The stark reality is we are in a cost-of-staying-alive crisis in the UK. Families already struggle to eat. Parents go without so their children can eat. Heating is rationed, and children sleep together, sharing blankets to stay warm. The sooner people realise the perilous situation we are in, the better. Maybe then the necessary actions will be taken to stay alive.

The devastating levels of poverty in the UK will be escalating as families keeping afloat will be plunged into poverty because of the increase in food prices and cost of utilities as the ripple effects of the budget decimate people financially.

Yet, what causes me more significant concern is the apathy within the church to speak out concerning the days we live. You see, what is transpiring before our eyes has been foretold in the Bible. It informs us that we would suffer an economic collapse and famine, which would be followed by war and further famine, pestilence and devastation. Sadly, those who are to understand the prophetic oracles are spiritually barren and inept at comprehending or discerning the times we live. Consequently, they espouse the old mantra, “All will be well.” “Peace and safety.” Instead of calling the church to pray and repent while admonishing them to prepare for hard times. Furthermore, many continue to preserve buildings, which such measures could be postponed as the monies set aside to paint and upgrade could be used to feed the poor and needy. Such clergy will be held accountable, but sadly, in most instances, it will be after many have suffered.

Nevertheless, I urge Christians reading this article to challenge their pastors and church leaders to take action. Demand that they call the church to repent and then speedily collect food that can be distributed to the needy. If the church has land, formulate a plan and commence planting crops that can feed people. To stop all nonessential building programmes outreaches and focus on prayer, repentance, reaching the lost, establishing a storehouse and also how the church building can be used to house people when families become homeless.

The reality of our current situation is that we will witness something far worse than the great depression experienced by American families nearly one hundred years ago. Thus, it is imperative that the church quickly takes steps and prepares to help people. What good is it to share the gospel and then let people starve? We can’t proclaim the good news without helping people, without being the hands and feet of Jesus in a deprived world. We must show our Christian faith in the actions we take.

Thus, I urge people, first, if you do not know Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, to surrender your life to Him. We are all destined to die, yet for those who have given their life to Jesus, death is a doorway to eternity with God. Without Jesus, a person’s eternal destination is the lake of fire. Then, find a Bible-believing church and commit to learning how a Christian should live. You can also email me nathan@faithandprepared.com to know more.

Once you have ensured your eternal destination, prepare physically for hard times. Look at how you can heat and cook without electricity or gas, store food, and connect with like-minded people.

Famine is here and will intensify. Like all nations, the British economy is collapsing, after which a global currency will be introduced. War is coming, after which people will willingly embrace a one-world leader who will promise peace but will instead enslave humanity through his deceptive lies and charisma. The Bible calls this man the antichrist who will enslave humanity and persecute Christians and those who stand against him.

Please do not ignore what is happening worldwide. Instead, seek God as you prepare spiritually, physically, and psychologically. Time is running out. You have been warned.
